The Colorbond® steel roof and ceiling provide a long-lasting, easy-clean finish, and its structural strength allows you to walk on it for maintenance.

Materials.
Colorbond® steel on the topside and a clean-lined steel ceiling below, with a high-performance polystyrene core in between. Australian-made BlueScope® steel. Available in the full Colorbond® colour range — topside and underside specified independently.
Dimensions.
Available in 50mm, 75mm and 100mm panel thicknesses — the thicker the panel, the higher the thermal performance. The structural design eliminates rafters and battens, creating a clean, uncluttered underside perfect for alfresco and outdoor dining spaces.
Process.
Free onsite measure and quote, engineering, shire permit lodgement, then fabrication in our Welshpool workshop. The modular panel system installs faster than traditional roofing with separate insulation layers. Four to eight weeks, signed quote to handover. What is SolarSpan® and how is it different from standard roofing?
SolarSpan® is a sandwich panel product by Bondor — Colorbond® steel on top, a high-performance polystyrene insulation core in the middle, and a clean steel ceiling finish underneath. Unlike standard roofing with separate insulation layers, SolarSpan® is a structural all-in-one panel that requires no rafters or battens. The result is faster installation, a cleaner ceiling-like finish and significantly better thermal performance.
What thickness of SolarSpan® panel should I choose?
Panels come in 50mm, 75mm and 100mm thicknesses. The thicker the panel, the higher the R-value (thermal resistance). For most Perth patios a 75mm or 100mm panel delivers the best comfort return. We'll recommend the right thickness for your space and usage during the onsite consultation.
Can SolarSpan® panels be used on any patio style?
Yes — SolarSpan® suits gable, flat, skillion and hip roof patios. Because the panel is structural and requires no rafters, it's particularly well-suited to clean-lined alfresco designs where you want a smooth, uncluttered underside.
Does SolarSpan® work with downlights?
Yes. Bondor offers a purpose-designed 9W UltraSlim LED downlight kit for SolarSpan® panels. The lights are low-profile, energy-efficient and come with warm white (3000K) or cool white (4000K) options plus chrome or white trim. We design the lighting layout at the build stage so everything is pre-wired and perfectly placed.
Does a SolarSpan® patio need council approval?
Yes — like any permanent patio structure. We manage the full building permit process with your local shire, from site plans and engineering drawings to lodgement and approval. You don't need to lodge anything yourself.
